The bonds we form with our animal companions are often deeper and closer than human bonds, lending purpose to our lives and giving us endless unconditional love. Saying goodbye to them is often one of the hardest and most painful things we'll ever have to go through.

Sadie was no exception to this. She was my dear companion for almost 16 years. While processing her loss, I started a daily ritual of lighting a candle in her memory. Perhaps it was something picked up from my Mom's catholic upbringing and my own childhood memories - there was always a candle lit every evening in my childhood home - and it brought me comfort and warmth in a time of great loss.

That small ritual soon became Sadie’s Light. Now, every candle I pour carries a bit of her love, meant to bring comfort, cozy light, and soothing scents into someone else’s home.

These days, I share my home with my two rescue pups, Toby and Tilda, who make me smile every single day. And with every candle, Sadie’s love lives on — a little flame carrying her memory forward.
